On Saturday July 27, Leadership Creativity’s Principal, Craig Morris, spoke at a Rally organized by the ‘What Were You Wearing’ charity. The rally was part of a nationwide protest by Australian community organisations to protest against male violence towards women.
The rally in the heart of Wollongong was attended by over 200 people raising their voices against violence towards women. This was a strong and passionate call for action to end gender based sexual, domestic and family violence.
Craig spoke at the rally as part of his role on the committee of Healthier Illawarra Men (HIM), a Wollongong based organisation consisting of local business leaders. HIM’s charter is to raise awareness of the issues around mens health and raise funds to support charities that deliver programs in support of mens health in the Illawarra.
Craig spoke of the role that men can play in changing the narrative around gender based violence. It’s not right that women feel unsafe walking along the street, in their homes and going about their lives. It’s wrong and it needs to change. Men have a huge role in changing the statistics, in changing the behaviour of men .
“It’s time for men from all areas, business, government, media, religious and cultural groups to stand up. Men need to be more aware, not turn a blind eye to bad behaviour towards women. Step in, have a conversation and be an ideal example of real men.”
